Isn't it interesting how life unfolds? The story behind this session is a perfect example of serendipity at its best.
This family was heading to Croatia for a vacation with their in-laws, who are long-time clients of mine from San Antonio. The two families planned to schedule photography sessions—one at sunset and another at sunrise the next day.
However, fate had other plans. In between the sunset session with the first family and the sunrise session, this family unfortunately came down with food poisoning. We had to cancel the session, and since we were all flying out the next morning, rescheduling was impossible.
As luck would have it, I was traveling to San Diego, where this family resides, just a week after returning from Croatia. I suggested the possibility of arranging a session then, and it turned out that the stars aligned beautifully.
We managed to organize an incredible session starting at the stunning Balboa Park. Having never been there and with limited time for research, I reached out to a photographer friend who had previously lived in San Diego for advice. He generously shared all the best tips (thank you, Tony!). I then enlisted my friend Don, who was accompanying me on the trip, to act as my voice-activated light stand—his payment came in the form of wine later that evening!
After capturing beautiful moments at Balboa Park, we headed to their beach house at Windansea Beach, where we wrapped up the session with portraits on the beach against a breathtaking sunset.
As you can see, this family is absolutely stunning, and I am so grateful that everything came together. Now, their home is filled with beautiful portraits that tell a wonderful story.
I’ll be returning to San Diego in May 2025 and would love to revisit these locations—or discover new ones—to photograph more families. San Diego is gorgeous, and the weather is fantastic! If you're interested in learning more about my May trip, please reach out, and I'll be happy to share the details!
